TabVault Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 17, 2026 · Applies to the TabVault Chrome extension

Short version: TabVault collects nothing. Your saved tabs live in your browser’s local storage and never leave your machine. There are no accounts, no analytics, no tracking, and no servers of ours. The only network request the extension can ever make is a one-time license check to Gumroad — and only if you buy Pro and paste in a license key.

What TabVault stores, and where

When you save a tab or a window, TabVault stores the page title and URL (and, with Pro, the tab-group name and color) in chrome.storage.local — storage that lives inside your browser profile on your device. Your settings (theme, preferences, license key) are stored the same way.

  • Nothing is transmitted to the developer or any third party.
  • No account is created and no identifier is assigned to you.
  • Exports and backups are JSON files written to your own disk (your Downloads folder), at your request.
  • Favicons are rendered from Chrome’s built-in local favicon cache. TabVault does not contact any favicon service.
  • Uninstalling the extension deletes its local storage; your exported JSON files remain yours.

What TabVault collects

Nothing. TabVault contains no analytics, telemetry, error reporting, or tracking of any kind. We cannot see what you save, browse, or search.

The one network request: Pro license verification

If you purchase TabVault Pro and paste your license key into Settings, the extension sends that key only to Gumroad’s license API (api.gumroad.com) over HTTPS, once, to confirm it’s valid. The result is cached locally; the extension does not phone home afterwards. No browsing data, saved tabs, or personal information is included in that request.

Purchases themselves happen on Gumroad’s website and are governed by Gumroad’s privacy policy. We never see your payment details.

Why TabVault asks for its permissions

  • Tabs — to read the titles and URLs of tabs you choose to save, and to reopen them when you restore a collection.
  • Storage / unlimited storage — to keep your collections locally without a cap.
  • Tab groups — to save and restore Chrome tab-group names and colors (Pro).
  • Alarms & downloads — to write the optional daily JSON backup to your Downloads folder (Pro).
  • Favicon — to display site icons from Chrome’s local cache instead of a remote service.
  • New tab page — TabVault replaces the new tab page with your board; that’s the product.

Data sales and sharing

TabVault does not sell, rent, share, or transfer user data to anyone, for any purpose. There is no data to sell — it never reaches us. Use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Children’s privacy

TabVault does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted at this URL with an updated effective date. The local-first promise — your saved tabs never leave your browser — is the product’s foundation and will not change.
