A platform for knowledge and community

Healthy Aging CORE connects people and organizations working in healthy aging. Visitors need to find relevant resources, members need spaces to collaborate, and staff need to manage publishing across a regional network.

RapidIteration rebuilt the legacy platform with a new architecture and modern codebase. Our work brought resource search, group collaboration, event registration and editorial workflows into a shared application, with performance and accessibility included in the rebuild.

Resource discovery

The CORE BC resource library combines search, subject filters and resource types to help visitors navigate published material.

One architecture, regional flexibility

CORE National, BC and Alberta share a Laravel and MySQL application with regional site configuration. Public pages, member features and an authenticated administration interface work with the same underlying records and access rules.

This structure supports regional publishing without separating the community’s content from the staff workflows that maintain it. Blade templates, Vue components and an administrative application serve the different interfaces.

Regional events also require consistent time handling. The application distinguishes stored event times from regional display and editorial time-zone settings, so an event can be presented appropriately in Pacific, Mountain or Eastern time.

Search with membership in mind

Search covers resources, events, training, news, programs, funding opportunities, discussions and groups. Visitors can filter by content type and date, then sort by relevance or date.

Access rules are part of that experience. Closed-group content is subject to membership permissions, while an open group can offer a visitor a clear path to join. Regression cases cover guests, pending members and approved members.

How a resource moves through CORE
  1. Publish — Staff assign the resource’s regional and group context.
  2. Discover — Visitors search and filter relevant content.
  3. Access — Publication and membership rules determine availability.
  4. Participate — Members use resources and community features.

Built for the people maintaining the community

The administration interface manages content, users, groups and site configuration. Member features include discussions, messaging, notifications, invitations and profiles alongside the public resource library.

Connecting these functions gives the organization a common foundation for publishing, participation and administration. The engineering work extends beyond the public website to the permissions and editorial tools that support its daily operation.
